Pipe Weight Chart-EN 10220

Different standardized systems offer different scopes of application, and pipe weight char focus is not the same.

Today we will discuss the EN standard system of EN10220.

Overview of the EN 10220 standard

EN 10220 is the European standard for dimensions and tolerances of seamless and welded steel pipes.
The EN 10220 standard has a wide range of applications and is mainly used in the oil, gas, chemical, construction, and water treatment industries.
The standard includes the outer diameter (OD) and wall thickness (WT) of steel pipes, providing a clear set of guidelines and uniform specifications for engineering design and manufacture to ensure consistency and interchangeability of pipe products produced by different manufacturers.

Weight Calculation Methods

The method of calculating mass per meter per unit length is provided in the EN 10220.

                       M=(D-T)×Tx0.0246615

M is the mass per unit length in kg/m,

D is the specified outside diameter in mm,

T is the specified wall thickness in mm.

This factor is based on a density of 7.85 kg/dm3.(kg/dm3 is the unit of density, cubic decimeters.)

The calculated values may also be applied to tubes with different density values, but have then to be multiplied by a factor of

1.015 for austenitic stainless steel(This factor is based on a density of 7.97 kg/dm3).

0.985 for ferritic and martensitic stainless steel(This factor is based on a density of 7.73 kg/dm3).

Calculations can be made based on the differentiated density values for each group of stainless steel grades provided in EN 10088-1.

EN 10220 Series Classification

EN 10220 according to the degree of standardization of pipes and their accessories. There are three series.

series 1: outside diameters for which all the accessories needed for the construction of piping systems are standardized;
series 2: outside diameters for which not all accessories are standardized;
series 3: outside diameters for which very few standardized accessories exist.

Pipe weight charts for EN 10220 Series 1

The pipe O.D. of this series follows international or industry standards exactly, and the market offers fully standardized fittings such as flanges, couplings, and elbows.

This complete standardization simplifies the design and installation process and reduces the need for non-standard parts and customization costs.

The OD portion of this type of piping is standardized, but not all fittings are standardized. Some standard fittings, such as flanges or elbows, can be obtained, while other parts may need to be customized, adding to the cost and complexity of the project.

This is often the case with very specific or unconventional pipe sizes that require a large number of customized fittings and components, raising the cost of designing and implementing the project, as well as lengthening the procurement and production cycle.

Pipe Weight Charts for Wall Thicknesses 70 -100 mm

For thick-walled tubes with wall thicknesses from 70 mm to 100 mm, the requirements are specified in EN 10220, Table 2.

 Accessories for heavy wall tubes with dimensions in accordance with Table 2 may not be available regardless of the series in Table 1 to which the relevant outside diameter is allocated.
