Application Range of 3LPE Coating and FBE Coating Pipe

As people pay more and more attention to environmental protection and sustainable development,the application of pipelines in various industries and fields has become common.However,pipelines are often exposed to harsh environments, such as high temperature,high pressure,and corrosive media,causing severe damage to them,resulting in higher maintenance costs and,in some cases,accidents or environmental disasters. To overcome these challenges, pipes can be coated with protective coatings such as 3LPE coatings and FBE coatings to increase their corrosion resistance and improve their durability.

3LPE coating,that is,three-layer polyethylene coating, is a multi-layer coating system consisting of a fusion bonded epoxy (FBE) base layer, an adhesive layer and a polyethylene topcoat layer. The coating system has excellent corrosion resistance,mechanical strength and impact resistance,making it widely used in oil and gas pipelines,water pipelines and other industries where pipelines are exposed to corrosive environments.

FBE coating, on the other hand, is a single-coat coating system consisting of a thermosetting epoxy powder coating applied to the surface of the pipe. The coating system has excellent adhesion, high abrasion and impact resistance and good chemical resistance, making it suitable for pipeline protection in various industries such as oil and gas, water and transportation.

Both 3LPE coating and FBE coating are widely used in pipeline engineering because of their excellent protective properties. However, their scope of application varies depending on the specific situation that the pipeline needs to handle.

In oil and gas pipelines, 3LPE coating is preferred because it can resist the corrosive action of oil and gas, as well as the impact and friction of the surrounding soil. In addition, 3LPE coatings can also resist cathodic disbonding, which is the separation of coatings from metal surfaces due to electrochemical reactions. This is especially important for pipelines that are cathodically protected against corrosion.

In water pipelines, FBE coating is the first choice because it can effectively prevent the formation of biofilm and the growth of bacteria, which can pollute the water quality. FBE coating is also suitable for pipes conveying abrasive media, such as sand, gravel or mud, due to its excellent wear resistance.

In the transportation pipeline, either 3LPE coating or FBE coating can be used according to the specific situation of transportation. If the pipeline is exposed to a corrosive environment, such as a marine environment, 3LPE coating is preferred because it resists the corrosive action of seawater and marine organisms. If the pipe is exposed to abrasive media such as minerals or ores, FBE coating is preferred as it can provide better wear resistance than 3LPE coating.
