The latest batch of 18 inch SCH40 ASTM A53 Grade B ERW steel pipes has successfully passed the rigorous testing conducted by a third-party laboratory.
During this inspection, we conducted several key mechanical performance tests to verify the strength and reliability of the ASTM A53 Grade B ERW steel pipes. Below are the recorded videos outlining the requirements and processes of the flattening test and tensile test.
The flattening test is divided into three steps to test the flattening resistance of different positions of the steel pipe.
1. First step: This is a test for the ductility of the weld. No cracks or breaks shall be present on the inside or outside surface of the weld before the distance between the plates is reduced to less than two-thirds of the specified outside diameter of the pipe.
2. In the second step, the flattening shall continue as a test for ductility away from the weld. During this step, no cracks or breaks shall be present on the inside or outside surface away from the weld, before the distance between the plates is reduced to less than one-third of the specified outside diameter of the pipe, but not less than five times the specified wall thickness of the pipe.
3. During the third step, which is a test for soundness, the flattening shall be continued until the test specimen breaks or the opposite walls of the test specimen meet. Evidence of laminated or unsound material or of incomplete weld that is revealed by the flattening test shall be cause for rejection.
The video below shows the second step of the flattening experiment.
Tensile testing is a key test in the steel pipe inspection process, capable of checking the tensile strength and ductility of the pipe. For ASTM A53 Grade B ERW steel pipes, the minimum tensile strength required is 415 MPa, and the minimum yield strength is 240 MPa.
