This specification2 covers minimum-wall-thickness, seamless carbon steel boiler and superheater tubes for high-pressure service.

Application of ASTM A192 Carbon Seamless Steel Pipe:

Pipe ordered under this specification is For high pressure use: heat exchangers, condensers, heat transfer equipment, similar pipes and as superheater tubes for high pressure settings.

Manufacturing Process of ASTM A192 Carbon Seamless Steel Boiler tube:

ASTM A192 carbon seamless steel pipe/tube are produced either by cold-drawn or hot rolled, as specified.

Hot finished tubes need not be heat treated. Cold finished tubes shall be heat treated after the final cold-finishing at a temperature of 1200°F or higher.

The steel shall conform to the required chemical composition for carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, and silicon. The tubes shall have a hardness number not exceeding a specific value.

The tubing sizes and thicknesses usually furnished to this specification are 1/2 in. to 7 in. [12.7 to 177.8 mm] outside diameter and 0.085 to 1.000 in. [2.2 to 25.4 mm], inclusive, in minimum wall thickness. Tubing having other dimensions may be furnished, provided such tubes comply with all other requirements of this specification.


The following mechanical tests shall be conducted, namely:

Flattening test;

Flaring test;

Hardness test;

Hydrostatic test.

Mechanical property requirements do not apply to tubing smaller than 1/8 in. [3.2 mm] inside diameter or 0.015 in. [0.4 mm] thickness.

Appearance for ASTM A192 Carbon Seamless Steel Boiler Tubes:

A sufficient number of visual surface imperfections to provide seasonable assurance that they have been properly evaluated with respect to depth. The defect shall be removed or cut off within the limits of requirements on length. The finished pipe shall be reasonably straight.

Packing for ASTM A192 Carbon Seamless Steel Boiler Tubes:

a. Bare pipe or Black / Varnish coating ( customized);

b. In bundles with two cotton slings;

c. Both ends with end protectors;

d. Plain end, bevel end(2" and above with bevel ends, degree: 30~35°) .
