This batch of ASTM A234 WPB 90° 5D elbows, with a bend radius five times the pipe diameter, was purchased by a returning customer. Each elbow is fitted with 600 mm long pipes.
Before galvanization, Botop Steel carried out a 100% rigorous inspection in line with the customer’s requirements and strict quality control standards.
The inspection included wall thickness measurement, dimensional checks, drift testing, and ultrasonic testing (UT).
In the manufacturing process of elbows, the wall thickness at the outer arc may become thinner.
To ensure compliance with the customer's minimum thickness requirements, Botop Steel conducted sampling inspections using ultrasonic thickness gauges at multiple key points, including the outer arc and pipe ends of all elbows.
Shown below is the wall thickness inspection result of the outer arc area for one of the 323.9×10.31mm 90° 5D elbows.
The drift test is used to check the internal clearance and smoothness of elbows or pipe fittings.
A drift gauge of a specified size is passed through the entire fitting from one end to the other to ensure there is no deformation, no reduction in diameter, and no foreign obstructions.
This ensures that the medium can flow smoothly through the fitting during actual use.
Ultrasonic testing was carried out by a third-party inspection agency, with 100% non-destructive testing performed on all elbows to ensure they are free from cracks, inclusions, delamination, and other defects.
All elbows have successfully passed the required inspections, ensuring full compliance with project standards. They are now packed and ready for delivery to the customer’s designated project site.
