Knowledge of Seamless Steel Pipe (Tube)

Due to different manufacturing processes, seamless steel pipe can be divided into two types: hot-rolled (extrusion) seamless steel pipe and cold drawn (rolled) seamless steel pipe. Cold drawn (rolled) tubes are divided into two types: round tubes and shaped tubes.

a. Process overview

Hot-rolled (extrusion seamless steel pipe): round tube blank heating perforation three-roll cross-rolling, continuous rolling or extrusion de-pipe sizing (or reducing diameter) cooling the blank tube straightening hydraulic test (or flaw detection) mark into the warehouse.

Cold drawn (rolled) seamless steel pipe: round tube blank heating perforated head annealing acid pickling oil (copper plating) multi-pass cold drawing (cold rolling) blank tube heat treatment straightening hydraulic test (inspection) mark storage.

b. Seamless steel pipes are divided into the following varieties due to their different uses:

GB/T8162-2008 (seamless steel pipe for structure). Mainly used for general structural and mechanical structures. Its representative material (brand): carbon steel 20, 45 steel; alloy steel Q345, 20Cr, 40Cr, 20CrMo, 30-35CrMo, 42CrMo and so on.

GB/T8163-2008 (seamless steel pipe for conveying fluid). Mainly used for conveying fluid pipelines on engineering and large equipment. The representative material (brand) is 20, Q345, etc.

GB3087-2008 (seamless steel pipe for low and medium pressure boilers). It is mainly used for pipes for conveying low and medium pressure fluids in industrial boilers and domestic boilers. The representative material is steel No. 10 and No. 20.

GB5310-2008 (seamless steel tubes for high pressure boilers). It is mainly used for high temperature and high pressure conveying fluid gathering boxes and pipelines on power stations and nuclear power plant boilers. Representative materials are 20G, 12Cr1MoVG, 15CrMoG, etc.

GB5312-1999 (carbon steel and carbon-manganese steel seamless steel pipe for ships). It is mainly used for I and II pressure pipes for ship boilers and superheaters. Representative materials are 360, 410, 460 steel grades, etc.

GB6479-2000 (seamless steel pipe for high pressure fertilizer equipment). It is mainly used to transport high temperature and high pressure fluid pipelines on fertilizer equipment. Representative materials are 20, 16Mn, 12CrMo, 12Cr2Mo and the like.

GB9948-2006 (seamless steel pipe for petroleum cracking). Mainly used in boilers, heat exchangers and pipelines for transporting fluids in petroleum smelters. The representative materials are 20, 12CrMo, 1Cr5Mo, 1Cr19Ni11Nb and the like.

GB18248-2000 (seamless steel pipe for gas cylinders). Mainly used in the production of various gas and hydraulic cylinders. The representative materials are 37Mn, 34Mn2V, 35CrMo, and the like.

GB/T17396-1998 (hot rolled seamless steel pipe for hydraulic props). Mainly used to make coal mine hydraulic supports and cylinders, columns, and other hydraulic cylinders and columns. Its representative materials are 20, 45, 27SiMn and the like.

GB3093-1986 (high-pressure seamless steel pipe for diesel engines). Mainly used for high pressure fuel pipe of diesel engine injection system. The steel pipe is generally a cold drawn pipe, and its representative material is 20A.

GB/T3639-1983 (cold drawn or cold rolled precision seamless steel pipe). It is mainly used for mechanical structures, carbon pressure equipment, steel tubes with high dimensional accuracy and good surface finish. It stands for material 20, 45 steel and so on.

GB/T3094-1986 (cold drawn seamless steel pipe shaped steel pipe). Mainly used in the production of various structural parts and parts, the material is high quality carbon structural steel and low alloy structural steel.

GB/T8713-1988 (precision inner diameter seamless steel pipe for hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders). It is mainly used for the production of cold drawn or cold rolled seamless steel tubes with precision inner diameter for hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders. Its representative material is 20, 45 steel and so on.

GB13296-2007 (stainless steel seamless steel tubes for boilers and heat exchangers). Mainly used in boilers, superheaters, heat exchangers, condensers, catalytic tubes, etc. of chemical enterprises. High temperature resistant, high pressure, corrosion resistant steel pipe. The representative materials are 0Cr18Ni9, 1Cr18Ni9Ti, 0Cr18Ni12Mo2Ti and the like.

GB/T14975-2002 (stainless steel seamless steel pipe for structure). It is mainly used for general structure (hotel, restaurant decoration) and steel pipe for atmospheric and acid corrosion and has certain strength for mechanical structure of chemical enterprises. The representative materials are 0-3Cr13, 0Cr18Ni9, 1Cr18Ni9Ti, 0Cr18Ni12Mo2Ti and the like.

GB/T14976-2002 (stainless steel seamless pipe for fluid transportation). Mainly used for conveying corrosive media. Representative materials are 0Cr13, 0Cr18Ni9, 1Cr18Ni9Ti, 0Cr17Ni12Mo2, 0Cr18Ni12Mo2Ti and the like.

YB/T5035-1993 (seamless steel tubes for automotive semi-axle bushings). It is mainly used for the production of high-quality carbon structural steel and alloy structural steel hot-rolled seamless steel tubes for automobile semi-axle bushings and axles for axles of drive axles. The representative materials are 45, 45Mn2, 40Cr, 20CrNi3A and the like.

API SPEC5CT-1999 (Casing and Tubing Specification) is compiled and published by American Petroleum Institute ("American") and is widely used around the world. Among them: Casing: a pipe that protrudes into the well from the ground surface and is used as a lining of the well wall, and the pipes are connected by a coupling. The main materials are steel grades such as J55, N80, P110, and steel grades such as C90 and T95 which are resistant to hydrogen sulfide corrosion. Its low steel grade (J55, N80) can be welded steel pipe. Tubing: A pipe that is inserted into the casing from the surface of the ground up to the oil layer, and the pipes are connected by a coupling or an integral body. Its function is that the pumping unit transports oil from the oil layer to the ground through the oil pipe. The main materials are J55, N80, P110, and steel grades such as C90 and T95 which are resistant to hydrogen sulfide corrosion. Its low steel grade (J55, N80) can be welded steel pipe.

API SPEC 5L-2000 (Line Pipe Specification), compiled and published by the American Petroleum Institute, is used throughout the world.

Line pipe: It is the oil, gas or water that takes the shaft out of the ground and transports it to the oil and gas industry enterprises through the line pipe. The line pipe includes two kinds of seamless and welded pipes, and the pipe ends have flat ends, threaded ends and socket ends; the connection modes are end welding, coupling connection, socket connection and the like. The main material of the tube is steel grades such as B, X42, X56, X65 and X70.
